Project ALAS provides specialized support and resources for Multicultural
Deaf and Hard of Hearing people and their families living in Massachusetts.
A Comprehensive Independent Living Program provides training in
- Advocacy
- How to handle money
- Using public transportation
- Using specialized telephones
- Education
- Parent skills training
Evaluations are offered in the following areas

Health and HIV, AIDS (SIDA) project
Support groups and peer groups
- Support groups enable both the Deaf individual and family members
to gain a better understanding of deafness and respond positively to
it, learning to view it as a culture with its own distinct language
and characteristics.
- Peer groups aim to initiate more social contact, drawing Latino
Deaf persons out of isolation and allowing them to share life experiences
and values with their peers.
Project ALAS offers support to parents and the community through

- Communication training
- Sign Language classes
- Interpreting and translation services in English/Spanish/American
Sign Language
The evaluation, translation and sign language services take into account
multiple aspects of culture and language of both audience and information
sources.
