D.E.A.F., Inc. offers Continuing Education classes to the Deaf and Hard of Hearing community in a variety of subject areas. Classes are taught in American Sign Language by Deaf instructors.
The following classes are available: English 1, English 2, Focus is on developing basic vocabulary skills, spelling, penmanship, and expressive language skills. Basic sentence structure, parts of speech, writing simple sentences, and basic reading skills. English classes meet twice a week for two hours each night, and last fifteen weeks. Teaches students the information needed to pass the Registry of Motor Vehicle test for a Learner's Permit. The Independent Living Program staff can assist students with Learner's Permits and finding On-the-Road instruction. Class meets once a week for three hours. We offer DriverÕs Education when ten or more students are enrolled. Provides students with background information regarding US history, government, and geography, to prepare them for the US Citizenship Interview. Classes meet twice a week for two hours each night, and last fifteen weeks. Introduces students to the computer, and teaches basic computer operations and typing and word processing skills. Classes meet twice a week for two hours each night, and last ten weeks. Focuses on improving reading skills and English skills, particularly in the areas of vocabulary and grammar, and assists students with using better English skills in the workplace.
